Sunrise, September 8

This week I stopped a bit south of Split Rock Lighthouse, where the Split Rock River flows into Lake Superior.  The sun rose at 6:33 a.m.  The sky was very colorful before the sun actually rose, but I missed most of the awesome color.  It was in the upper 40's, but felt quite nice.

A parking area is conveniently located on the side of the highway, with steps leading down to the beach.  The peninsula blocked most of the sunrise action.

Still nice color in the sky

Beach, lake, sky

This area of the beach has old pilings in the water

I was experimenting with slowing the shutter speed to get these shots

All lined up

A little break from the waves

The sun light hits the rocks in the distance

This tangle of branches stayed steady no matter how many waves washed over it

An interesting piece of driftwood

Getting close to the hole

Through the looking hole

The shoreline

It's hard to distinguish where the water meets the rock

Until a wave rises up
