Sunrise, November 24

It's been a year since I first started taking Lake Superior sunrise pictures. I'd like to think I've learned a lot about my camera in that year, but I also have more learn. So I'll keep on practicing! I finally made it out last weekend after a couple cloudy Sundays in a row.  I had to get out all my warm winter clothes because it was 0 degrees.  The sun rose at 7:22 a.m.  I stayed close to home, driving to the marina.

I first tried the safe harbor area, but the sunrise was a little hard to see

I went to the overlook instead, where the sun lit up the sky despite some pretty heavy clouds

Barry and I were on our way home when we saw this amazing sunset that filled the sky with color.  Here you can hardly see where the sky ends and the lake begins.

This Luna Moth was hanging out on the side of the Holiday gas station one morning when I went to buy the Sunday paper.

I didn't go out for the sunrise last weekend because it was cloudy and not good for taking photos, so here's one from last June

Raina's birthday.  She chose ice cream sundaes instead of cake, so we improvised with Skittles instead.

Sunrise, November 3

With Daylight Savings Time ending, the sunrise was earlier again this week at 6:51 a.m.  When I first got up and looked outside, the sky was brilliant orange.  It was 21 degrees outside with frost on the windshield again, so I let the car warm up a few minutes.  I decided to go to Split Rock Lighthouse.  When I got there, I had to fill out a state park permit form, hurrying anxiously as the bright orange gradually faded.
