Grand Marais and Beyond

When we were finished hiking at Sugarloaf Cove, we drove north to Grand Marais.

Kids + rocks on the beach=happiness

The weather was perfect--sunny with a few clouds and mild temperatures

Trout bike

I thought the texture of this tree branch was interesting

Seagull on blue

Despite the dirty look she seems to be giving us, this duck was content to let us watch her for awhile.

She did get back in the water

And found a bone that she played with (or was trying to eat)

And dived under water before flying away

We ate a late lunch in Grand Marais at the Harbor House Grille.  Then we continue north to Grand Portage.  The Grand Portage National Monument is a historical center based around the fur trading and Ojibwe heritage.  It was closed, but we could still look at the teepees and outside of the lodge.

It was nearing sunset, so our sightseeing time was almost over

Yep, looks like fall!

The lookout shortly before the Canadian border, or the tip of the Minnesota arrowhead

Photos can't do justice to the awesome view

It was too dim at this point to take good pictures on our way back down, but  I can't imagine how this old wall is still standing
