The Merry Month of May

The end of April still felt like winter, with near freezing temperatures, snow, and gale force winds on Lake Superior. Barry and I braved the weather to watch some waves in Beaver Bay and Iona's Beach.

I love the unexpected randomness you can find on the beach, whether it's a piece of driftwood . . .

  . . . or a misplaced rock.

By mid-May, the weather was starting to warm up a bit, but there was a lot of rain.  Combined with the snow melt, the Beaver River was roaring.

Finally, on Memorial Day weekend we actually had warm weather and enjoyed an evening walk at Tettegouche State Park and checked out my parents' new lake home.

We finally saw signs real signs of spring, like wildflowers and budding trees.

I had fun watching the red-winged blackbirds while the kids were fishing with grandpa

I think this is a female red-winged blackbird

Raina's class learned some photography with local photographer Paul Sundberg and has been taking some photos here and there:

Three days of school left, and then the summer begins!
